Lisa Baldwin of KPRC Channel 2 News Reports on the Life-Changing Power of the Genesys Works Program.
Houston, TX (August 18, 2008)
KPRC Channel 2 viewers caught a glimpse of the Genesys Works program in action as reporter Lisa Baldwin visited our downtown classrooms and informed thousands of Houston-area viewers about our information technology program.
The segment, which aired on August 13th, spotlighted the various support services provided to Genesys Works students such as: technical training, communication skills, goal-setting, college-preparation, and employment. While the KPRC cameras captured the students at work assembling computer systems, Lisa Baldwin informed the viewers that there was more going on than just the arrangement of computer parts inside a case. "Students are taught the IT skills that businesses have a need for," reports Baldwin, but "they are building computers and building confidence" at the same time.
Anchorman Bill Balleza commented that the Genesys Works program offers high school students an opportunity to gain corporate work experience while still in school but stressed that the program was extra-special because it targeted inner-city students who might not otherwise get that opportunity.
Commenting on the professional communications skills portion of the program in particular, KPRC Anchorwoman Dominque Sachse stated "How well we work with one another is really a precursor for success; it's nice to see programs like this."

In addition to information technology, Genesys Works also trains and places students in engineering drafting/CAD and has recently launched an accounting and finance program.
